Falafel day! A perfect, filling accompaniment to a salad, I love falafel! So when seeing Deliciously Ella had a homemade recipe I was very excited to give it a go. As well as this I was also able to use the Apple Purée I spoke about in my last post.
The recipe is described as being quite similar as Hummus, it just needed to be kept a bit chunkier. I used all of the ingredients bar the turmeric (as I didn’t have any – fail) and used date nectar syrup instead of the honey alternative. Looking back I also forgot to add a sprinkling of brown rice flour to the initial blend and then rather than roll/coat at the end sprinkled a bit of the flour over. As you’ll be able to see this really didn’t look very right – lessons learnt!
The taste and smell of the falafel once cooked was as Ella mentioned quite similar to hummus though there was quite a bit of bitterness from the lemon came through a bit too much for my taste. It’s definitely something I’d like to try again and now that I’ve invested in some turmeric the taste might change!
