Run Report: Huntingdon parkrun

Second parkrun of the New Year – after a NYD trip to Kettering – and a few from running club decided to head over to Huntingdon.

A fairly early start but I was looking forward to the course which was around Hinchingbrooke Country Park. I generally prefer the parkrun’s that take you around country parks as there’s much more to look at and there’s usually some varied terrain.

We attended the first timers briefing and found out the course started on grass, it was a wide area though all I could think about was falling over! Luckily for me once we set off I stayed upright and the short stretch of grass took us down a trail which led to woodland. Being wary underfoot (with branches sticking out) I made my way to the end of the first lap to high-fives and cheers from the marshals. It was time for a second lap.

I enjoy two lap courses:

1. because I’m less likely to get lapped

2. I make it my aim not to get lapped

3. I use the first lap to get to know the route then the second lap relax into it and enjoy

Halfway through my second lap I saw someone from my club making his way onto the finish straight – taking the spot of 1st place. He’d have at least a 10-minute wait for me!

The final part was pretty tough in that you had to run away from the finish line before heading back to it. At this part, I definitely got overtaken by an energetic I’m guessing 8 year old. A grassy finish – trying even harder not to fall – and I finished in 28.54.

I really enjoyed Huntindgon, a really friendly volunteer team and a nice course!
