December 2019

Year in review: 2019

As we reach the end of the year and the end of a decade, I thought I’d round-up by posting a review of my year of running.

It’s fair to say this year has been INCREDIBLE.

I’ve taken part in three half marathons, two marathons, 47 parkruns -15 different parkrun locations, one official 5k, one virtual running event, seven 10ks (including three laps at Equinox24), two five-milers, a 10-mile and my first ever cross-country experience.

It’s been PB’s galore with parkrun (25.43), 10k (55.40), half marathon (2.05.49) and marathon (4.58.57).

Favourite event

Without a doubt (as if you didn’t already know!) my event of the year has to be NYC Marathon. A surprise marathon, the marathon where I finally hit my sub-5 goal and the marathon that I’d longed to do. It was everything I wanted and more and, though I’ve rambled in my blogs – part 1 and part 2 – I still can’t describe how much I enjoyed it. Reaching the sub-5 goal was literally the icing on the cake.

Favourite parkrun

I’ve been really lucky this year to take part in 15 different parkrun events up and down the country. Each one is unique, and I love seeing so many people up and out every Saturday morning. I’ll post a round-up of my 2019 parkruns soon but my favourite has to be Conkers. I really enjoyed the out-and-back course and loved the woodland location – even the little hill (in other terms slight incline) midway around.

Favourite moment

A combination of two events and reaching a half marathon PB not once, but twice in such a short space of time. With a house-renovation, I kept my events to a minimum in the first half of the year. I was lucky enough to receive a ballot entry to the London Landmarks half marathon and focused on following Mara Yamauchi’s training plan from the London Landmarks website ( After spending many months working hard I achieved a 10-minute PB of 2.07.38. The PB was succeeded soon after at the MK Marathon Weekend, knocking a further two minutes off in 2.05.49.

I’m not sure what’s going to beat 2019 in terms of my running and all the amazing experiences though I’ll certainly aim to continue enjoying running and the adventures on the way.

Happy New Year!
